ShareChat Serves Tens of Millions of Users Using AWS

ShareChat is a Bangalore-based social networking app (launched in 2015) that lets users share content in their own languages and follow local celebrities. As the user base began to grow rapidly, the founders faced a pressing challenge: build a scalable, reliable, low-latency infrastructure that works over constrained 2G networks, supports analytics and machine learning, and reduces IT management overhead so the team can focus on product.

ShareChat moved its stack to AWS, using Amazon EC2 with MQTT and Auto Scaling, AWS Lambda, Amazon DynamoDB, S3, Redshift, and CloudFront to handle messaging, storage, analytics, and delivery. The result: ten-fold user growth in 12 months with no scaling issues, tens of millions of users served with sub‑second app response and low latency on 2G, and reduced infrastructure management—freeing the team to pursue ML and improved video processing.
