Saving 80% on Costs While Improving Reliability and Performance Using Amazon Aurora with Panasonic Avionics

Panasonic Avionics, a global supplier of in-flight entertainment and communications systems, needed to modernize its legacy on-premises MySQL environment as part of a company-wide migration to AWS. Its IFE application faced end-of-life database support, manual backup and patching overhead, replication lag, limited scalability, and availability risks, so Panasonic turned to Amazon Web Services and Amazon Aurora MySQL-Compatible Edition.

Amazon Web Services helped Panasonic migrate more than 50 MySQL databases using AWS Database Migration Service and Percona XtraBackup, with monitoring through CloudWatch and Performance Insights. The move reduced operational work, enabled automated backups and point-in-time recovery, improved replication from tens or hundreds of seconds down to milliseconds, and made queries about 15% faster, while also improving scalability and resiliency.
