Sanoma - Customer Case Study

Sanoma is a diversified Finnish media group with about 15,000 employees across Europe; its Sanoma Games unit produces casual online games and fantasy sports and was expanding into new markets and categories. To support resource‑intensive applications with dramatic seasonal load variations while retiring an on‑premises datacenter, the unit needed an adaptable architecture that would preserve legacy systems, enable modern web technologies, and allow flexible development.

Nordcloud recommended and implemented an AWS‑based solution using Amazon S3, EC2 with Auto Scaling, Amazon RDS with Read Replicas across Availability Zones, CloudWatch monitoring, ElastiCache (for development), and Python‑driven automation. The environment (about 35 instances on average, peaking near 50) delivers easier administration, on‑demand capacity for peak seasons, and cost‑effective scalability—positioning Sanoma Games to accelerate growth and reliably serve millions of gamers.
