Reducing Operational Overhead and Technical Debt Using AWS Fargate with Old Mutual

Old Mutual, a financial services company, wanted to reduce operational overhead and technical debt while modernizing its container platform. Working with Amazon Web Services, the team moved from a server- and node-managed setup to Amazon ECS and AWS Fargate so it could simplify container management and avoid long upgrade cycles.

Amazon Web Services implemented a serverless architecture on Amazon ECS with AWS Fargate, along with reusable scripts and AWS Immersion Days to help teams adopt the service quickly. The results were significant: the first migration took 2 months, new teams can now be onboarded in under 1 week, version updates dropped from 2–4 weeks to zero days, team size was cut by more than half, and the new distributed design improved availability and disaster recovery while reducing idle-server costs.
