A Amazon Web Services Case Study
RedMart is a Singapore-based online supermarket founded in 2011 that offers home delivery and two-hour delivery windows for thousands of grocery items. Rapid growth strained its original two physical servers: the site needed to serve some 4,000 SKUs (with tens of thousands of image files) and support fast, reliable warehouse picking and order processing, so RedMart required redundancy, scalability and much lower latency to expand.
RedMart migrated to AWS, building its stack with S3, EC2, CloudFront, Route 53, Elastic Load Balancing and VPC, automating infrastructure with Chef and integrating its warehouse system on the cloud. The move cut latency to about 10 ms, made the front end five times faster while reducing costs by over 60%, delivered near‑100% uptime, supported ~110 virtual servers and sustained 15–20% month‑on‑month order growth (peaking ~4,000/day); the company is now extending capabilities with Redshift and DevOps practices.
