Redfin Uses Amazon SES to Reliably Deliver Millions of Property Listing Emails Every Day

Redfin needed to migrate its high-volume property listing email system from its own SMTP servers to the cloud so it could improve reliability and deliverability. Using Amazon Web Services’ Amazon SES, Redfin aimed to better handle millions of emails per day while gaining clearer visibility into delivery performance, bounces, and complaints.

Amazon Web Services implemented Amazon SES, along with Amazon SNS and Amazon SQS, to streamline Redfin’s email delivery and feedback handling. The result was the reliable sending of hundreds of millions of emails in August 2023 with a 99% deliverability rate, peak throughput of over 1,000 emails per second, and improved ISP-level insights that helped quickly resolve a deliverability issue. Redfin also reduced engineering overhead by no longer maintaining its own SMTP servers.
