Realizing the Full Value of EHR in a Digital Health Environment on AWS with Tufts Medicine

Tufts Medicine needed to modernize its electronic health record (EHR) environment and migrate critical healthcare systems quickly, while improving resilience, security, and patient access. Working with Amazon Web Services, Tufts Medicine moved away from on-premises infrastructure and used AWS services to support its Epic EHR and related digital health operations.

Amazon Web Services helped Tufts Medicine deploy its new EHR on AWS in 14 months across two Regions with multiple Availability Zones for disaster recovery. Using AWS CloudFormation, Amazon Connect, Amazon Lex, AWS Control Tower, and Amazon CloudWatch, Tufts Medicine migrated 42 third-party applications, consolidated 109 patient portals into one, and completed a four-million-patient document ingestion in 72 hours instead of 200 days. The result was faster innovation, stronger security, submillisecond response times, and less time spent on routine IT maintenance.
