A Amazon Web Services Case Study

Preview of the Razorpay Case Study

Razorpay Supports 150% Increase in Traffic by using AWS

Razorpay, a Bangalore-based payment-gateway founded in 2014 and used by over 30,000 merchants, needed a highly reliable, low-latency infrastructure to improve transaction completion rates, meet Indian data‑sovereignty requirements, and handle rapid, fluctuating demand that could spike suddenly. The company also required a migration with minimal downtime so merchants would not lose revenue or trust.

Razorpay migrated its platform to AWS and the new Asia Pacific (Mumbai) region using Amazon Aurora cross‑region replication, Auto Scaling, EC2, ELB, RDS, ElastiCache, S3, and Lambda. The move completed with under four minutes of downtime, cut latency from ~400 ms to ~10 ms, raised payment success rates by about 3%, and supported a 150% traffic surge with no impact on performance or availability—enabling faster growth and operational agility.
