Raytheon, a leading provider of mission-critical defense technology, faced lengthy, inflexible development cycles driven by strict security requirements and complex, proprietary government data centers. Building production-like test environments could take months, limiting testing frequency and forcing long regression windows that left multiple application versions in flight and slowed delivery.

By moving development and testing to AWS GovCloud and adopting infrastructure-as-code with Chef, Raytheon automated on-demand provisioning using EC2, EBS, and S3 and implemented continuous integration pipelines. The result: environments that deploy in about 15 minutes and persist only hours to prevent drift, testing up to 30× faster, stronger compliance controls, lower on-premises overhead, and faster delivery of higher-quality mission software.
