Rackspace Automates Infrastructure Management across Cloud Providers Using AWS Systems Manager

Rackspace began using Amazon Web Services’ AWS Systems Manager to automate infrastructure management across the major cloud providers it supports, extending a 2015 adoption in 2019 to cover VM management at scale. The challenge was managing patching, diagnostics, and remediation across hybrid and multicloud environments without the high cost, complexity, and manual effort of traditional operations.

Using Amazon Web Services’ AWS Systems Manager, Rackspace automated mass patching for more than 62,000 VMs, streamlined monitoring and remediation, and reduced infrastructure overhead. The solution handled over 38,000 incidents in two months, sent 10,660 automated responses, saved 1,480 labor hours, and automated 70% of manual remediation, improving security, response times, and support efficiency.
