A Amazon Web Services Case Study
ProtectWise is a cloud-native security company that gives enterprises pervasive visibility, automated threat detection, and forensic exploration of petabytes of network data. Faced with the prohibitive cost, limited retention, and poor scalability of traditional on‑premises network forensics—plus the need for elasticity to withstand traffic surges and DDoS attempts—ProtectWise needed a cost‑effective architecture that could ingest massive volumes of data and enable fast historical analysis.
ProtectWise rebuilt its platform on AWS using EC2, EBS, and S3 with a “stateless” hot/warm shard design, Apache Cassandra/Solr for indexing, and Parquet files on S3 for archival storage. The result: storage costs down about 95%, ingestion of ~50 TB of compressed data per day, petascale search with 1–3 second responses, and operational efficiency (over 2,000 instances managed by a six‑person team), enabling fast, scalable, and affordable security analytics.
