ProSiebenSat.1 Media SE, through its subsidiary Seven.One Entertainment Group, needed a way to deliver interactive TV experiences at scale for live shows and voting-heavy broadcasts without struggling with sudden traffic spikes. The company turned to Amazon Web Services, using serverless services including AWS AppSync to replace an on-premises solution that was difficult to scale and required extensive preshow preparation.
With Amazon Web Services, Seven.One Entertainment Group built a serverless, API-driven architecture using AWS AppSync, Amazon DynamoDB, AWS Lambda, and Amazon CloudFront. The result was a 6-month migration with no downtime, 60% lower monthly costs, and better peak performance, including 13 ms latency during a major finale and the ability to scale by 10x or more when traffic surged.
