PostNL Handles Logistics for Millions of Parcels with Event-Driven Architecture on AWS

PostNL, the Dutch postal and logistics company, faced the challenge of modernizing an aging IT environment while managing both declining mail volumes and rapidly growing parcel demand. To reduce costs, improve flexibility, and increase scalability, PostNL chose to work with Amazon Web Services and move part of its application landscape into the public cloud, including business-critical logistics systems.

Amazon Web Services implemented cloud infrastructure and services such as Amazon EC2, Amazon RDS, Elastic Beanstalk, Elastic Load Balancing, and VPC connectivity to support PostNL’s critical applications. The result was a significant reduction in IT costs and time-to-market, with PostNL reporting that the cloud transition helped align IT more closely with business needs and enabled a scalable environment; 90% of projects were completed on time and within budget, and only 15 of 500 applications remained on premises.
