Porter Airlines - Customer Case Study

Porter Airlines, a Toronto-based regional carrier operating 29 aircraft to 23 destinations, relied on its website as the primary e-commerce and customer-service channel for millions of monthly visitors. Hosting the site in an internal data center left the airline vulnerable to downtime, struggled to scale quickly for sudden traffic spikes from promotions, and required costly, inflexible disaster-recovery capacity.

Porter migrated its website and applications to AWS, using EC2 with Auto Scaling, S3/Glacier for storage, RDS for operational databases, Redshift for analytics, and SES for email. The move delivered higher uptime, automatic scaling for large traffic surges, lower operational and DR costs by eliminating a duplicate data-center footprint, and faster, consolidated analytics—allowing Porter to match costs to usage and focus on growing the business.
