PinoyTravel - Customer Case Study

PinoyTravel is a Manila-based startup that created the Philippines’ first centralized online bus-ticketing service to simplify travel across more than 7,100 islands. Founded by Aurora Soriano, the company faced unreliable local web hosting, inability to scale for tourism and daily traffic peaks, difficulty integrating with mobile operators and payment partners, and uncertainty about growth that made maintaining physical servers risky.

PinoyTravel migrated to AWS in three weeks and now runs its site and mobile API in an Amazon VPC using EC2 (with Elastic Load Balancing), S3, RDS and CloudFront. The move delivered rapid scalability and faster incident recovery, supported growing traffic (about 65,000 monthly page views and 12,500 new users/month by 2014), expanded partnerships from a single route to multiple major bus and ferry operators, and enabled faster feature testing and growth of its mobile app.
