OpenDataSoft - Customer Case Study

OpenDataSoft, an AWS Advanced Technology Partner, provides a turnkey SaaS platform that helps governments publish and share public data. When the City and County of Durham launched a joint open-data initiative they faced typical barriers—siloed legacy systems, limited technical staff and tight budgets—plus the added challenge of combining datasets from two separate jurisdictions while making information easy to use and reusable for civic innovation.

OpenDataSoft deployed a branded portal on AWS (using S3 and EC2) that non‑technical staff can use to ingest, standardize, and publish data, and that exposes APIs and visual dashboards for citizens and developers. Within six months Durham published 165 datasets and 115 maps/charts; the portal now delivers about 95% of the information citizens seek, improves transparency, frees staff from routine requests, and scales with growing demand.
