OneFi is a Nigeria-based fintech that provides quick, small loans to underserved customers across Africa through its Paylater app. Facing manual, paper-heavy processes that required customers to visit regional offices and took up to two days to approve loans—limiting the business to about 500 loans per week—OneFi needed to automate, scale, and meet regulatory requirements like GDPR and PCI to support regional expansion.

OneFi moved its platform to AWS—using Amazon EC2, Amazon ECS, containerized apps, and AWS machine learning services including Amazon Rekognition—to launch and scale the Paylater mobile app and automate verification. The result: approvals in under two minutes, capacity to process over 5,000 applications and disburse about 1,500 loans per day, faster product cycles (from three months to several weeks), improved fraud detection, and stronger data protection for regulatory compliance.
