A Amazon Web Services Case Study
Olympusat is a large independent media company (founded in 1999) that reaches more than eight million viewers daily across 100+ English- and Spanish-language TV networks and its VEMOX over‑the‑top streaming service. Faced with a traditional PHP backend and server-based architecture that required manual administration, Olympusat wanted a single backend language and a move to microservices to speed development and reduce operational overhead.
Olympusat reimplemented its backend in Node.js and built an asynchronous microservices architecture using Amazon API Gateway, AWS Lambda, Amazon S3 (for schema validation), Amazon SQS, DynamoDB, and SNS. The new approach eliminated server administration, sped deployments, enabled adding new delivery vehicles without extra code, and cut costs by about $25,000 per month while freeing the team to focus on innovation.
