NTT Docomo - Customer Case Study

NTT DOCOMO, Japan’s largest mobile provider serving over 68 million customers, faced performance and scalability problems as its internal data analysis system grew to multiple petabytes. The company needed to move analytics to the cloud to handle scale and speed while preserving the same strict security controls it had on-premises.

NTT DOCOMO migrated its analytics platform to AWS—running a 125-node Amazon Redshift cluster (4,500 vCPUs, 30 TB RAM) with data sent via Direct Connect/VPC from on‑premises preprocessing into S3 and Redshift, and using Amazon RDS and EMR for specific workloads. The move delivered 10× faster analytical queries, cut time to onboard new data sources from months to weeks, preserved enterprise-grade security, improved elasticity and cost-efficiency, and freed staff from infrastructure management while enabling future expansion and partner collaboration.
