NN Investment Partners Improves Scalability and Cuts Costs by 50% Using Amazon RDS for SQL Server

NN Investment Partners, the investment manager of NN Group, was struggling with its legacy self-managed SQL Server database, Quartz, which had grown too large, was difficult to disentangle, and was becoming costly and inflexible as the business expanded. The company turned to Amazon Web Services and chose Amazon RDS for SQL Server with support from AWS Enterprise Support to find a more scalable and manageable alternative.

Amazon Web Services helped NN Investment Partners plan and execute a phased migration, preloading data during the week and moving only delta data over the weekend. The move cut database costs by 50%, improved elasticity and scalability, eliminated much of the patching and infrastructure burden, and freed engineering teams to focus more on functionality and innovation instead of database management.
