Nationwide Scales Amazon EKS to Simplify and Accelerate IT Development

Nationwide, headquartered in Swindon, England, began a digital transformation in 2017 to strengthen its engineering capabilities, adopt new ways of working, and reduce technology complexity. As it explored cloud technologies, the company saw faster deployment and development benefits, but its early experimentation with bespoke Kubernetes solutions created governance, control, and scalability challenges. Amazon Web Services was brought in as Nationwide’s cloud vendor, with Amazon EKS used to support its container-based platform efforts.

Amazon Web Services helped Nationwide standardize and centralize its ePaaS environment by recommissioning secure, cloud-native models on AWS and using Amazon EKS to simplify federated cluster deployment. The result was a more consistent and scalable Kubernetes foundation with lower operational overhead, helping Nationwide accelerate IT development and improve control across teams.
