Nasdaq Uses AWS to Pioneer Stock Exchange Data Storage in the Cloud

NASDAQ needed a way to handle rapidly growing market data volumes without slowing nightly billing, reporting, and surveillance. As trading activity increased, the company’s legacy on-premises warehouse and later its AWS-based Amazon Redshift environment struggled to load tens of billions of records in the limited overnight window, delaying reports before markets opened.

Amazon Web Services helped NASDAQ move to a more modern data lake architecture using services such as Amazon Simple Storage Service, AWS Identity and Access Management, and Amazon S3 Glacier. With AWS, NASDAQ scaled to support up to 70 billion records a day and loaded market data for reporting 5 hours faster, improving flexibility, scalability, and performance.
