mytaxi - Customer Case Study

mytaxi is Europe’s leading taxi app (10 million users, 45,000 taxis across 40 cities) that must deliver continuous, low‑latency service and meet strict European data‑privacy rules. Its biggest challenge was reliability during massive, short‑term demand spikes—such as New Year’s Eve, when traffic can rise about 350%—while also keeping costs and time‑to‑market under control.

mytaxi rebuilt its platform as Docker‑based microservices on AWS (Amazon ECS, EC2 Spot instances, ELB, CloudWatch, RDS, S3, SQS/SNS, IoT, VPC), enabling automated elasticity and isolation of services. The result: the system handled New Year’s Eve without downtime, costs dropped roughly 40% with Spot instances, deployments are three times faster (now ~10 minutes), and overall availability, scalability, and developer productivity improved significantly.
