MUFG Accelerates Business Transformation with a Modern Data Architecture Consolidating over 40M Customer Accounts

MUFG, Japan’s largest bank, needed a better way to unify data spread across nearly 20 on-premises analysis and reporting systems, with limited historical access and slow, manual processing across branches. To support its digital transformation goals, MUFG worked with Amazon Web Services and used Amazon S3 and Amazon Redshift as the foundation for a modern data architecture.

Amazon Web Services helped MUFG build a group-wide data platform that consolidated structured and unstructured data from over 40 million customer accounts, added BI dashboards for headquarters and branch offices, and expanded into real-time data collection with Amazon Kinesis. The result was faster decision-making, reduced data-processing work for branch teams, and more insightful management reporting, with the platform growing to about 500TB in the data lake and 80TB in the warehouse by December 2022.
