Mueller Water Products Uses Amazon SageMaker to Improve Leak-Detection Performance

Mueller Water Products faced the challenge of improving leak detection across large volumes of water-use data while reducing false alerts and consolidating fragmented on-premises and cloud systems. Using Amazon Web Services, including Amazon S3 and Amazon SageMaker, Mueller set out to build a more accurate, cloud-based analytics platform for leak detection, pressure monitoring, and metering.

Amazon Web Services helped Mueller centralize terabytes of data into an AWS-powered platform and use machine learning to improve leak-event classification. As a result, Mueller cut false alerts in half, strengthened leak-detection performance, and enabled customers to better avoid costly losses; one utility expects to save $8 million over 5 years, and another used Mueller technology to reduce exposure to potential million-dollar environmental fines.
