MTC 511 - Customer Case Study

The Metropolitan Transportation Commission’s 511.org provides free, around‑the‑clock Bay Area travel information—traffic, transit, parking, carpool, and bicycling—but relied on multiple, separately hosted sites and needed higher availability and faster scaling to handle daily and event‑driven traffic spikes. MTC needed a unified, reliable platform that could support tens of thousands of users and simplify management across distributed teams.

Working with AWS Partner Civic Resource Group, MTC consolidated its sites onto CivicConnect on AWS, using Amazon EC2 with Auto Scaling, Elastic Load Balancing, Amazon RDS, S3, and CloudFront. The migration created a single 511.org, improved uptime and agility, enabled automatic scaling to support more than double the daily users during peak spikes, simplified analytics and site management, and is expected to lower long‑term operational costs.
