A Amazon Web Services Case Study
Modacruz is an Istanbul-based online marketplace for women to buy and sell pre-owned luxury fashion, serving more than one million users and roughly US$30 million in annual order value. To expand its customer base and support real-time "party" events, the company needed personalized image-driven feeds, rapid feature releases, and the ability to scale for unpredictable traffic spikes without managing on‑premises hardware across multiple app languages.
Modacruz migrated to AWS, using EC2 with load balancing, Amazon Elasticsearch Service, Lambda, S3, CloudFront, CloudWatch, Elastic Beanstalk, and Amazon Redshift (and is testing Kinesis and Rekognition) to power search, image processing, personalization, and monitoring. As a result it can handle spikes of 20,000 users in 30 minutes, increase server capacity by 150%, create production environments in two minutes, and run its infrastructure with a small team while delivering faster, more personalized experiences.
