mobli - Customer Case Study

mobli, founded in 2010, is a social network for sharing photos and videos with more than 13 million users, offering discovery, interaction, and simple editing tools. As the service scaled, the company needed more memory, easier management, and predictable costs—and its CTO wanted to avoid the time and expense of maintaining physical servers.

In 2011 mobli migrated to AWS, running Linux/PHP on EC2 (for video transcoding and feed aggregation) with Elastic Load Balancing, Amazon RDS for MySQL, S3 for media storage, CloudFront for delivery, and CloudWatch for monitoring. The move simplified operations, improved security, and let mobli scale on demand; the company cut infrastructure costs by up to 45%, streamlined budgeting and staffing, and handled traffic spikes more easily while benefiting from responsive AWS Support.
