A Amazon Web Services Case Study
MiHIN (Michigan Health Information Network Shared Services) is a nonprofit, state-designated organization that securely shares electronic patient information across Michigan to improve care quality and reduce costs. Faced with more than 12 million weekly messages and rising demand, its collocated data center could not scale on demand, tied up capital in hardware, and limited the organization's ability to launch new services quickly.
MiHIN migrated its exchange to AWS with help from Cloudticity, running workloads on EC2 with EBS, RDS, and CloudWatch, and shut down its data centers. The move delivered virtually unlimited scalability to handle current and future message volumes, lowered operating costs by eliminating collocated hardware, freed IT staff to focus on growth, and enabled same-day provisioning of new services—making the organization more agile and responsive.
