Migrating Large-Scale SAP Workloads Seamlessly to AWS with Sony

Sony Electronics needed to migrate its business-critical SAP West Platform, used by more than 6,000 users across 50 countries, from an on-premises data center to the cloud while improving agility, reducing costs, and modernizing aging SAP and mainframe systems. The project had to be completed on a tight timeline and budget with minimal disruption to operations, making Amazon Web Services (AWS) the chosen vendor and platform for the move.

Amazon Web Services implemented the migration with AWS Enterprise Support, AWS Migration Acceleration Program, AWS Well-Architected reviews, and AWS Infrastructure Event Management, moving 15 SAP applications to AWS and modernizing storage and backup services. The results were significant: Sony achieved a 40% runtime performance improvement, reduced its data footprint by 30%, cut Amazon EBS storage costs by 84%, lowered Amazon EFS costs by 40%, reduced Amazon S3 costs by 20%, and backed up 4 TB of data in under an hour.
