Mercado Libre Scales Its Business, Improves Reliability in Migrating 5,000 Databases to Amazon DynamoDB

Mercado Libre, the Latin American ecommerce and fintech company, needed a more reliable way to manage its rapidly growing infrastructure as traffic increased and its mix of database technologies became harder to sustain. Its self-managed NoSQL setup had grown to 5,000 databases, but maintenance across more than 30 clusters was causing timeouts, errors, and downtime. Mercado Libre turned to Amazon Web Services and Amazon DynamoDB to address the challenge.

Amazon Web Services helped Mercado Libre migrate 5,000 databases to Amazon DynamoDB in early 2019 using its existing abstraction layer, so no teams had to change code or alter the roadmap. The move improved reliability and eliminated downtime-related costs, while simplifying data management for mission-critical applications.
