Medscheme - Customer Case Study

Medscheme, a South African healthcare risk‑management firm serving about 3.5 million people across several African countries, needed to move from a fee‑for‑service model to value‑based care. A small phone‑based pilot that targeted at‑risk individuals showed reduced hospitalizations, shorter stays, and lower costs, but the company lacked a scalable, standards‑compliant system to share information and extend coordinated care to thousands or millions of patients.

Medscheme built an Electronic Health Record ecosystem on AWS using a multi‑AZ reference architecture (EC2, ELB, ElastiCache, RDS, VPC, IAM) to ensure interoperability, security, and scalability. Launched in five months, the cloud solution lets Medscheme roll out coordinated care at population scale while maintaining compliance (ISO 27001, PCI DSS, HIPAA), avoiding large upfront costs, and enabling the improved outcomes demonstrated in the pilot.
