Lyell Reduces Time to Validate GxP Compliance from Weeks to Minutes Using AWS

Lyell Immunopharma, a clinical-stage T-cell reprogramming company focused on solid-tumor cancer therapies, needed a faster, more reliable way to validate GxP compliance for its manufacturing systems. Its manual process of comparing screenshots and documenting changes was expensive, error-prone, and took 2–3 weeks per validation, making it harder to keep up with FDA requirements and system updates. Lyell turned to Amazon Web Services and its AWS Professional Services team to modernize the process.

Using AWS, Lyell built Rapid Q to automate compliance validation and reporting across its environment. The solution uses services including Amazon S3, AWS Lambda, Amazon SQS, Amazon SNS, Amazon DynamoDB, and Amazon RDS to run tests, generate reports, send alerts, and store audit data. As a result, Lyell reduced validation time from weeks to minutes, lowered manual effort and errors, and gained a scalable, paperless process that helps it deploy upgrades faster.
