Lockheed Martin, a global aerospace and defense company, needed to consolidate and reduce costs for hundreds of critical SAP test and development systems while improving agility and meeting strict security and ITAR requirements. The business aimed to move its largest SAP Suite on HANA test/dev environment to the cloud to respond faster to internal users and lower capital expenditures.

Partnering with Lockheed Martin Enterprise Business Services and AWS, they deployed two SAP HANA instances in AWS GovCloud (US) using Amazon EC2 X1 instances and standardized security blueprints. The move enabled faster provisioning without repeated approvals, delivered better performance than on‑premises test systems, offered expected OPEX savings by spinning environments up/down, and met regulatory/security needs—paving the way for potential production migrations.
