Liulishuo - Customer Case Study

Liulishuo is an AI-driven education technology company that uses deep learning to power a personalized "AI English Teacher" and adaptive courses; by 2018 its flagship app had about 70 million registered users and over one million paid customers. Rapid growth after its 2013 launch created major IT challenges: highly variable traffic with large peak surges, increasing product complexity, stringent security needs around its pronunciation database, and rising big-data processing demands for personalized learning and analytics.

To address this, Liulishuo migrated its entire stack to AWS in 2014 and adopted services such as EC2, S3, RDS, EMR, Auto Scaling and Spot Instances, plus VPC and IAM for security. The move delivered 99.9% application availability, automated scaling to absorb traffic spikes, faster and cheaper data processing via EMR and low-cost instances, and lower O&M and infrastructure costs; the company now plans to expand AWS use for machine learning and GPU-based model training.
