A Amazon Web Services Case Study
LafargeHolcim, a global leader in building materials recognized for sustainability and innovation, needed to manage dozens of country websites across more than 70 countries. Because traffic varied widely and they required high performance plus separate development, testing, pre-production, and production environments, the company sought an elastic, robust hosting solution and chose to migrate its sites to AWS.
Using Amazon EC2 and S3 (with plans to evaluate Amazon VPC), and building on Java/J2EE, WebSphere, Oracle and Linux, the team—supported by EDIFIXIO—migrated the corporate site and 22 country sites to the cloud. The move delivered on-demand scalability for peak events, improved responsiveness and flexibility, a shift from capex to opex, and ongoing rollouts of additional country sites and potential internal applications.
