KONE Unlocks New Efficiencies Using AWS IoT

KONE, the elevator and escalator company, wanted to modernize its legacy IoT and analytics stack instead of simply lifting and shifting it, so it turned to Amazon Web Services and AWS IoT Core. The challenge was to build a secure, scalable architecture that could reliably connect equipment to the cloud, support 24/7 monitoring, and improve the efficiency of provisioning and outage resolution.

Amazon Web Services implemented a modern IoT foundation using AWS IoT Core, AWS IoT Device Management, Amazon S3, and other AWS services, with support from AWS Professional Services. The result was near-100% provisioning success, more than 70% of faults proactively identified, customer-reported elevator and escalator issues reduced by more than 40%, and entrapments reduced by 40%, while KONE scaled to 500,000 devices and lowered costs significantly compared with its old architecture.
