Kmart Australia Accelerates Migration to AWS Using Micro Focus Solution

Kmart Australia was spending millions each year on an inflexible, hard-to-maintain mainframe that supported its core merchandising system and more than 30 mission-critical applications. To avoid renewing an expensive contract and to modernize its operations, Kmart Australia worked with Amazon Web Services and Micro Focus to migrate its legacy mainframe environment to the cloud.

Amazon Web Services, using Micro Focus’s mainframe-compatible solution on AWS, helped Kmart Australia move 34 applications and 1.4 TB of data to the cloud in just 14 months. The result was millions of dollars in annual savings, improved scalability and disaster recovery, a database replication time cut from over 7 hours to less than 1 hour, and API performance improved from 3.5 seconds to 1.2 seconds.
