KKBOX - Customer Case Study

KKBOX is a Taiwan-based streaming and analytics company with more than 400 employees and one of the largest music services in Asia‑Pacific. Running analytics and streaming on a hosted data‑center model forced long hardware procurement cycles and slow reporting—Hadoop jobs required dozens of servers and reports could take up to two weeks—while a re‑architected video‑on‑demand service for partner KDDI struggled to meet performance and availability requirements despite more than one million subscribers, threatening regional rollout plans.

KKBOX migrated its analytics and re‑built its video platform on AWS, using Amazon EMR/EC2/S3 plus services like ELB, Route 53, SWF, CloudWatch and AWS Infrastructure Event Management with Enterprise support. As a result, analytics that once took weeks now run in minutes or hours, the company achieved up to 50% savings in video encoding costs, migrated one million users with no downtime, and gained scalable HD transcoding and faster business agility for future expansion.
