King Using Amazon CloudFront to Deliver Mobile Games to Over 200 Countries

King is a social games company founded in 2003 that builds cross‑platform, socially connected casual games people can play anywhere. By Q1 2015 it served 364 million players in over 200 countries who generate about 1.6 billion short, on‑the‑go game plays per day, creating a major challenge to deliver fresh content quickly over varied networks (including 2G/3G and intermittent connections).

To meet that challenge King adopted Amazon CloudFront to take advantage of its global edge network, rich feature set, and API‑driven workflow for rapid content updates. The CloudFront integration proved cost‑effective (no data‑transfer charges from S3/EC2 origins), scaled to hundreds of terabytes daily with spikes above 0.5 PB, and improved key metrics—latency, responsiveness, and load times—enabling the “bite‑size moments of magic” King aims to deliver.
