Kempinski Hotels - Customer Case Study

Kempinski Hotels, Europe’s oldest luxury hotel group founded in 1897 with 81 five‑star properties in 30 countries, needed to reduce the burden of running a complex on‑premises IT estate (over 140 virtualized servers), improve application productivity, support unpredictable workloads, cut costs, and maintain PCI‑DSS compliance. As a mid‑size IT organization, Kempinski wanted its team to focus on business value rather than infrastructure operations.

Kempinski chose AWS for its elasticity and worked with Cloudreach to migrate and manage an environment using EC2, EBS, RDS, S3 and Amazon VPC with VPN connectivity to the Geneva datacenter. The move cut operational overhead, improved uptime and connectivity across properties, removed hardware maintenance concerns, and centralized backups/patching/monitoring; Kempinski plans to close the Geneva datacenter and expects roughly a 40% reduction in total cost of ownership over five years while gaining greater agility.
