A Amazon Web Services Case Study
The Kellogg Company, a global leader in ready‑to‑eat cereals and snacks, faced a critical cost challenge: roughly a third of its revenue is spent on trade promotions, and even a 1% improvement in trade spend can mean about $50 million. Kellogg needed to run dozens of complex promotion simulations daily to optimize TV ads, coupons and shelving, but its on‑premises database could only run one simulation per day, limiting agility and squeezing margins.
Kellogg migrated its SAP Accelerated Trade Promotion Management (SAP HANA) environment to AWS—using EC2, VPC, S3, CloudWatch and related services—allowing it to process 16 TB of sales data weekly and run dozens of simulations per day. The move cut test/dev costs by about $900,000 over five years, enabled 90% faster instance provisioning, provided granular cost allocation and higher availability, and set the company up to scale to ~50 TB as it expands globally.
