A Amazon Web Services Case Study
Kdan Mobile, founded in 2009, develops cross-platform mobile apps for digital content creation and operates in Taiwan, China, and the US. Facing capacity limits with its on‑premises data center (supporting 1.5–2 million users) and lacking backups, monitoring, and robust security, the company needed to deliver always-on, low‑latency access globally and scale cost‑effectively to an anticipated 10 million users without large upfront capital expenditure.
Kdan migrated to AWS (initially in 2013) and now uses services such as EC2, Elastic Load Balancing, VPC, CloudFront, CloudWatch, Lambda/API Gateway and managed storage/databases to build a scalable, secure, and partly serverless environment. The move enabled growth to 10 million users, reliable handling of traffic peaks, faster issue detection and resolution, multi‑AZ resilience with 99.999% availability, reduced capital costs, and plans to add analytics and machine‑learning services for targeted user engagement.
