Johnson & Johnson Delivers Compliance at Scale and Lowers Cost Using Amazon EBS

Johnson & Johnson needed a simple, AWS-native way to retain virtual desktop snapshots for the long term while meeting legal and compliance requirements at scale for more than 45,000 workers. The company turned to Amazon Web Services and Amazon EBS as it looked to make storage more cost-effective and sustainable without disrupting existing backup and retrieval workflows.

Working with Amazon Web Services, Johnson & Johnson built a new archival process using Amazon EBS Snapshots Archive and AWS Lambda to migrate more than 100,000 snapshots. The solution enabled low-cost, long-term retention, met compliance needs, and lowered snapshot storage costs by up to 75%, helping J&J archive petabytes of data and achieve annual savings of over $1M.
