Intowow Scales In-App Video Ad Platform with AWS to Support an 80- Million Increase in Daily Users

Intowow is a Taiwan‑based ad‑tech company that provides a supply‑side platform and SDK for in‑app video advertising, helping publishers monetize apps and advertisers run campaigns. Its core challenge was scaling infrastructure and delivering real‑time analytics to handle huge volumes of ad requests—most notably a sudden surge from near zero to 80 million daily active users—without degrading service or slowing development.

Intowow built its backend on AWS, using microservices on Amazon EC2 with Amazon S3, CloudFront, Amazon EMR for managed real‑time processing, and Amazon Athena/Redshift for analytics. The move cut processing latency to under five minutes, enabled seamless scaling to support 200 million devices and an 80‑million‑user jump without app changes, delivered 99.999% availability, and reduced costs through per‑second billing, reserved/spot instances, and more efficient reporting.
