A Amazon Web Services Case Study
Infor, a global provider of industry-specific business applications, needed greater agility and higher availability as it moved customer-facing suites to the cloud. The company faced long Microsoft SQL Server backup windows—up to 12 hours for daily backups of about two petabytes of data—wanted to eliminate on-premises hardware management, and needed faster regional deployment and stronger SLA compliance.
Infor migrated applications to AWS using EC2 I2 instances for transactional workloads and switched backups to lower-cost, high-throughput Amazon EBS st1 volumes with snapshots to S3, plus Auto Scaling and multi‑AZ replication. The change cut full backup time by about 30%, reduced monthly backup costs by 75%, shrank a 3 TB weekly backup by one‑fifth, improved recovery points, and increased application availability and deployment agility.
