IE Business School - Customer Case Study

IE Business School, an international graduate school in Madrid known for its blended online and onsite programs, faced growing performance and availability challenges as roughly half its students worked full time and relied on always-on access. Its on‑premises data center struggled with slow hardware updates, telecom coordination, Wi‑Fi and bandwidth bottlenecks, and poor connectivity and navigation for remote students—issues that limited study time and threatened the learning experience.

IE migrated core services (Adobe Connect and Blackboard) to Amazon Web Services, deploying mirrored SQL databases and a scalable multi‑server architecture. The move cut provisioning from a month to days and software upgrade time from six months to two, eliminated overprovisioning, and freed staff for testing and improvements. Availability rose to 99.9% (from 99.5%), latency fell by about 60%, access times improved up to 30%, and user complaints dropped to nearly zero.
