IDEXX, a global S&P 500 leader in veterinary diagnostics and software, needed a more scalable, reliable infrastructure to support rapid growth and high customer expectations in the expanding pet‑health market. The company faced capacity limits in its Smart Service IoT platform, a monolithic reporting stack that couldn’t handle peak workloads, and growing burdens around storing and sharing large diagnostic images.

IDEXX migrated Smart Service to AWS IoT and moved reporting to AWS Lambda, implemented Image Manager on Amazon S3, and built a data lake on Amazon EMR. The changes scaled IoT capacity from ~60,000 to 145,000+ devices, enabled serverless, on‑demand reporting for faster test results, handled millions of images weekly with secure backup and real‑time collaboration, and accelerated data analytics and innovation without heavy capital investment.
