iCHEF - Customer Case Study

iCHEF is a Taiwan-based company that provides an iPad‑based, subscription POS service to restaurants across Southeast Asia. Faced with rapid customer growth (about 2,500 restaurants and up to 150 new signups a month), the company needed a cloud‑first backend to handle menu and transaction data, ensure high availability during peak meal times, keep IT overhead low, and provide a platform for future analytics and integrations—so it ruled out on‑premises infrastructure from day one.

iCHEF built its backend on AWS using Amazon VPC, EC2 (moving from On‑Demand to Reserved and Spot instances), Elastic Load Balancing, RDS, Lambda, API Gateway, and ECS. The move cut costs from $7 to $5 per user per month, reduced IT administration overhead by 13% through managed services, and delivered the on‑demand scalability and tools needed to expand the business and develop analytics-driven offerings.
