A Amazon Web Services Case Study
Hungama Digital Media Entertainment is a Mumbai-based aggregator, developer and distributor of Bollywood and South-Asian music and video content, licensing over 500,000 titles and delivering to consumers in 47 countries through mobile, web and IPTV channels. After running costly, slow on-premises data centers, Hungama migrated to AWS in 2008 for flexibility and faster time-to-market, but growing cloud usage led to rising monthly costs and the need to optimize infrastructure spending.
Working with AWS Support and a Technical Account Manager, Hungama ran AWS Trusted Advisor checks to identify underutilized EC2 instances and EBS volumes and opportunities for Reserved Instances. The team resized oversized instances, automated shutdowns of development servers, snapshot-and-archived unused volumes to S3, and adjusted reservations—completing changes in under four weeks. The effort cut snapshot churn by over 90% and delivered an estimated average 33% monthly savings on AWS spend (Q4 2012–Q1 2013), while preserving the scalability and faster time-to-market benefits of the cloud.
